Two weeks with Metroid Fusion

Well hopefully a few of you snuck some extra time in since I didn't get a post up Sunday. I am going to try to be better for the next games. I want to hear from you guys so post a comment on your play through. What sector are you in? I want to know the time on the save file, on the start menu your energy, missile, p-bomb, beam, missile, bomb, suit, and misc field contents. What is your current objective? Did you enjoy the game, learn to love it, or hate every minute of it? Do you plan on continuing the game? I probably could have went at least one more sector in my playtime but 3D classic: Kid Icarus and Crush 3D stole my playtime. I'll update this post after a couple of you share your experiences. In the mean time here is a tease.

UPDATE
A couple days late with my update. I was trying to get this out before we started the next game. I enjoyed my time with Metroid Fusion. I really haven't ever played a Metroid game before. I can remember playing Super Metroid as a kid at Target. I have Metroid Prime for Gamecube but I just couldn't get used to the controls. At that time I was heavy into FPS on PC. A couple of years later I picked up Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii but I only opened it to look at the game case and art book. It is waiting on my huge backlog. Then I picked up Metroid: Other M. I really enjoyed the time I put into it. It looked great and played great. I really didn't have an issue with the voice acting.  I plan on revisiting it and hopefully beating it some day soon. Anyways back to Fusion. First off like I believe Jerm said the graphics were good and I couldn't agree more. I would say this was modeled after the SNES graphics yet it doesn't feel to be 4 generations old when this game came out in 2002. I just pulled up a wiki on it and yes it does look like Super Metroid cause it was made by the same team that did it in 1992. You can read more about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metroid_Fusion . This makes me feel like I need to pick up Super Metroid on the Virtual Console. The activity log on the 3DS has me at 9 hours and 10 minutes. It also has me at 16 times played with an average of 34 minutes per play. I would say that number is probable closer to 8 times played since there were a few times I launched it and had to quit to do something else. The save file has me at 5:53 minutes and I am on the main deck. My current mission tells me to go to "Central Reactor core down. Engage auxiliary at target. Last time I played it I made it down to probably is the boss of this stage and died. I didn't seem to be hurting it and I died. It was late and I had to go to bed. The next time I had an opportunity to play I was helping out my wife play through the second sector. A couple days later the two weeks ended. I plan on going back and gutting that monster but it is time to stop the Metroid Fusion play through. I had a good time playing this game. The story line was ok and after playing Metroid other M some I enjoyed her talking about Adam. This game really encourages you to look for hidden rooms and power-ups.  My only hope is Nintendo does decided to update this games and give us more options like save states and the ability to pop back to the home screen for friends list and internet.  Another good feature would be button remapping. Even though the play time is over it isn't too late to post your impressions.

  1. Well, I've sat down with the game in two larger sessions and a couple of smaller sessions where I got discouraged and ended up playing other games.

Thankfully last night was one of the longer sessions. I learned the trick to staying alive is being quick on the draw to get to the health once you take down enemies and being aware of where the save points are on the map.

Jerm was right, the first couple of bosses were pretty easy then the suction cup alien with the dreads hits you. It took about 5 deaths to take him down with the missile launcher. I also got hung up on bizarro-Samus at the end of sector 2, before I realized you just have to let her walk out of the room and not fight her.

Right now I'm in sector 4. I have the charge gun, ball jump and high jump.

  2. This is really late, but I have to say that I liked parts of the game but struggled with the controls. I have always struggled with jumping and quick reactions, so pieces of this game really frustrated me. Jake had to tell me to use d-pad instead of circle thingy. Also the x button messed me up some. Only made it into sector 2, might play it more. I did like the story line.
